Tree Pick Up set for Oct 1st

Thank you for your interest in participating in this project to help mitigate the impacts of climate change. The Municipality of Pictou County (MOPC) Climate Change Advisory Committee is pleased to provide tree seedlings to rural homeowners in Pictou County (i.e., citizens who pay property taxes to the MOPC).
You can pick up your seedlings at the Municipal Offices located at 46 Municipal Drive in Pictou between the hours of 9:30 am and 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 1st. If there is inclement weather on Saturday, pick-up will be on Sunday, October 2nd. Each participating homeowner will receive a free seedling 18-24 inches in height along with a tree shelter that will help to protect the seedling from damage by wild animals, lawnmowers, snowplows, etc. The Advisory Committee will also provide instructions for planting and maintaining the seedling. You can choose from three hardwood tree varieties – Red Maple, Sugar Maple and Pin Oak.
The free seedlings and shelters will be provided on a first come, first served basis. Based on the expressions of interest received, the Advisory Committee expects that at least 100 free seedlings will be distributed. There will be some 70 additional seedlings that will be available for purchase at $5 each (limit of two per buyer) while supplies last.
In addition to helping mitigate the impacts of climate change through carbon capture, by participating in the Plant a Tree campaign you can increase your property value, improve your property aesthetics, and reduce your energy costs due to tree shading. The Advisory Committee appreciates your willingness to join us in this campaign.
