New wastewater lift station being built in East River Business Park

EAST RIVER ROAD –   An important piece of infrastructure will be soon be constructed in a Pictou County business park.

CF Construction has been awarded the tender to install a wastewater lift station in the East River Business Park.  The tender of $489,702.50 was awarded by New Scotland Business Development Incorporated that is made up of representatives from the Town of New Glasgow and the Municipality of Pictou County which co-own the 17 - acre property located along the East River Road in New Glasgow.

“This is a key piece of infrastructure as we develop the East River Business Park, said Board Chair and County Councillor Andy Thompson.  “The new lift station is designed to handle the future requirements of the park and will make it ready for future business investments.”

In addition to servicing businesses in the park, the new lift station will replace a current dated station in the Town of New Glasgow and will provide new wastewater services to some existing businesses along the East River Road.

In the spirit of this partnership, water to the business park will come from the Town of New Glasgow while service and maintenance on the wastewater lift station will be done by the Municipality of Pictou County.

“New Scotland is garnering a lot of interest with prospective business owners. Our advantage is clear for investors: fully serviced industrial property with access to natural gas, municipal services such as water and sewer and it is adjacent to one of the busiest roads in the province.  On top of this, we can offer the lowest commercial tax rates in the region,” said Thompson.

Work on the new lift station is expected to start soon with putting the pipes in the ground followed by pump and control work that can take place throughout the winter months.   It is expected the lift station will be in full service by Spring 2020.
