Dave MacIntyre hired as new rink manager for the Hector Arena
PICTOU - Dave MacIntyre has been hired as the new rink manager for the Hector Arena.
Hector Arena Commission Chair Darla MacKeil said the board is excited to have MacIntyre fill the position.
“He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience,” MacKeil said. “Dave is a familiar face not only around the Hector Arena, but also within the hockey community around the county and the province.”
A former professional hockey player, MacIntyre grew up playing in Pictou County rinks. He’s most recently been operating PMac’s Fitness & Training Centre, which moved to the upstairs of the Hector Arena last winter.
“It was a really good fit for me being there and doing my on-ice and off-ice training all at the Hector Arena,” MacIntyre said.
When he heard that Ronnie Clark would be stepping away from his position as manager, he decided to apply since he is already familiar with the rink operations and has management experience.
“I thought this would be a great opportunity for me to help out the community in Pictou and continue to be part of the Hector Arena,” he said.
He knows he will have big shoes to fill as he steps into the position, but he hopes he can build on the great work of his predecessor with a fresh perspective.
“It’s a high bar to move, but I do see some potential for revenue growth,” he said.
He said he would like to see it become a destination place for people throughout the county and the surrounding area.
“Even though the rink has been sustainable and Ronnie and the staff have done a great job, I think with a little bit of tweaks we can make it even better.”
