Council has approved the transfer of grant money in support of a new library and revitalized entertainment centre in Pictou West.
MOPC Council agreed in October 2019 to commit $275,000 to the Cultural Hub project will see the Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library and deCoste Entertainment Centre joining forces.
The design process is expected to create a blended facility where the two organizations could deliver their core services, while collaborating each day to provide new and expanded services and experiences. This will be the first facility in Nova Scotia to merge a library and performing arts centre in this fashion.
“This project is suddenly taking off. The change in government in Halifax is making a difference. It was being held up provincially before and the federal money is a go and the backing from the community is strong. There is a lot of dollars coming in from the public. It Iooks like it is a go for next spring,” said Warden Robert Parker.
The overall project is expected to cost $9 million, and the federal contribution will be $6 million, and province is granting the project $2 million. The Municipality of Pictou County and the Town of Pictou each granted $275,000 and $450,000 will come the community.
Construction on the Cultural Hub is expected to begin in April 2022. For more information about the Cultural Hub, visit its website http://www.culturehubpc.ca/.
