MOPC Warden Robert Parker said he is hopeful some good will come out of a recent meeting with the province regarding crisis mental health.
Warden Parker, along with the five other Pictou County municipal units, recently met with Nova Scotia Minister of Addictions and Mental Health Brian Comer and Pictou West MLA Karla MacFarlane to express the need for a separate entrance at the local hospital or another facility for treatment of crisis mental health issues.
“We are hopeful something will come of this,” he said. “We had a particular ask that stated we need a separate entrance facility, whether part of the hospital or another building for crisis mental health, has to be staffed 24/7 and it has to be staffed by professional people on call and it needs to have some beds.”
He said he is pleased to be working with the six municipalities on this initiative and said the group will continue to pressure the provincial government for change.
