MTBPC works to improve Fitzpatrick Mountain Trail

MOPC Warden Robert Parker, second from the left, recently visited a new bridge built by the Mountain Bike Trail Builders Pictou County. He is joined by Mark MacNutt, Christian Bucher as well as Janice Bucher.
MTBPC (Mountain Bike Trail Builders Pictou County) successfully had a Trails for Life Grant approved by Pictou County Trails Association.
MOPC is a long-time supporter of the Pictou County Trails so its contribution plus additional funding received from the Province of Nova Scotia and the Wild Blueberry Producers Association of Nova Scotia on behalf of the Heartland Tour was used to improve the infrastructure on the Fitzpatrick Mountain Trails.
MOPC funding was used to buy materials for the construction of the new footpath bridge. The bridge was designed and constructed by volunteers. The bridge has been completed and MTBPC expects the bridge to have a long life. The trail users are grateful that the old bridge was replaced because without the bridge the trails are not easily accessible from the Scotsburn Trailhead Park.
In 2021, MTBPC has volunteered 388 hours (all trail work is documented in Trail forks) to maintain the trails on Fitzpatrick Mountain. In addition to replacing the footpath bridge, the volunteers have removed tree falls, cut back overgrown vegetation, replaced a small low bridge, and made trail repairs.
Donations to help maintain the Fitzpatrick Trail to the MTBPC can be done through email at mtb.pictoucounty@gmail.com. Donations made to this email are used 100% for trail maintenance on the Fitz Trails (such as gas for trimmers and chainsaws, blades for trimmers, tools, wood)
People can also donate to PCTA through the NS Trails website (Donate Now - NS Trails). Donations to NS Trails go to the PCTA for operational costs and to the trails.
