PICTOU - The Municipality of Pictou County took some time to recognize some local heroes during its July 4 Council Meeting.
The MOPC presented Certificates of Recognition to GFL employees Matthew Deal, Jayden Stevens and Jeff Wadden whose actions saved a woman’s life in Bailey’s Brook on March 2, 2023.
Matthew who is employed with Pictou County Solid Waste contractor GFL to collect solid waste in the area of Bailey’s Brook, was nearing the end of his route that day when he saw a vehicle on a side road that looked out of the ordinary.
While he could have kept going, he took the time to go investigate more closely. He and a co-worker named Boris Goldshtuab discovered there was a dog in the vehicle and a woman trapped underneath it, who had been there for hours.
Matthew immediately called 911 and radioed Jayden and Jeff who were working nearby to come and help.
The men got the woman into a more comfortable position and placed their jackets on her to keep her warm until firefighters and an ambulance could arrive.
First responders say the actions of these men, almost certainly saved her life.
The Municipality of Pictou County thanks each of these men for their quick action and compassion.
They are truly modern-day Good Samaritans.
