If you live in rural Pictou County and missed your waste collection day, you don’t have to hang onto your clear garbage bags until the next collection date.
Residents of the Municipality of Pictou County who have less than 50 kg of waste per visit can drop it off at Pictou County Solid Waste in Mount William and have the $5 fee typically paid at the scale billed to The Municipality of Pictou County. This is a service provided to rural residents only and not those living in the five towns.
Proof of residency in the Municipality of Pictou County must be provided at the scale. If weight of waste is over 50 kg, the resident will be charged the usual tipping fee for the entire amount of waste being dropped off at the site.
Curbside collection of waste, recyclables and organics is a regular service funded by the Municipality of Pictou County. Four clear bags of waste can be collected at curbside at one time as well as unlimited number of blue bag recyclables. Green cart organics are also collected curbside.
Landfill vouchers are also available at the Administration Building for the Municipality of Pictou County until November 30. Two vouchers will be made available for each residential assessment in rural Pictou County.
Vouchers are given free of charge to people who own homes or cottages in rural Pictou County. Vacant landowners, wood lot owners, etc, do not qualify for such vouchers.
Each voucher will cover the cost of disposal at the Mount William Transfer Station up to 1,000 pounds and must be used in accordance with the Municipality of Pictou County Solid Waste Resource Management Bylaw, the Pictou County Shared Services Mount William Transfer Station Policies and the Solid Waste Management Regulations of Nova Scotia.
