Local musician wins prestigious award before returning home for concert

On November 25^th, tenor Marcel d'Entremont of Merigomish won the 2018-2019 Wirth Vocal Prize at McGill University in front of an enthusiastic audience and a four-person jury.

Alongside collaborative pianist Dakota Scott-Digout from Barrington, Nova Scotia, Marcel's program included works by Verdi, Duparc, Schubert, Tchaikovsky, Quilter and Copland. Established in 2015 by philanthropist Elizabeth Wirth, the Wirth Vocal Prize includes a cash award of $25,000, which is the highest music award offered at a Canadian university, a 14-karat Wirth Prize lapel pin, a private consultation with Marie-Catherine Lapointe from Boulevart Artists’ Management, a concert performance at La Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur in Montreal on April 25, 2019, as well as a concert performance in the Richard Bradshaw Theatre at the Four Seasons Centre in Toronto in the fall of 2019.

On December 20^th, Marcel and Dakota will be joined by soprano Brenna Conrad, a soloist at the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo, for a holiday concert, “Christmas at the Square”, at the Glasgow Square Theatre.
